The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all UN member States, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and our planet.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an urgent call for action by all countries in a global partnership. The SDGs address global challenges including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice.

The Goals are interconnected and it is important that each goal is achieved and targeted by 2030.

Everyone plays a vital role in achieving the SDGs — because everything you do makes a difference.

There is a fruitful cooperation between Festa and the Icelandic government in introducing the SDGs to Icelandic companies, municipalities and organisations. The cooperation involves various informative programs about the SDGs.

The National Statistical Institute of Iceland has launched a website with the Iceland data for Sustainable Development Goal indicators.

Climate Action

In November 2015, over one hundred CEO´s over Icelandic companies signed an agreement in the spirit of the Paris Agreement. This big achievement caught the attention of people all over the world, and it was introduced on the COP meeting in Paris that year.

The agreement is called “Loftslagsyfirlýsing Festu og Reykjavíkuborgar” or in english, The Climate Agreement of Festa and the City of Reykjavík. By signing the agreement, companies are making a commitment to:
• Reduce the release of greenhouse gases
• Reduce waste
• Measure and report on a regular basis on these two issues above

Festa and the City of Reykjavík have together provided support, education and knowledge to the participants as well as providing a tool to measure the carbon footprint of their.

The Climatepulse is available free of charge, www.climatepulse.is, for anyone interested in measuring and reducing their carbon footprint. It is updated once a year by specialists in the field and is established on international standards and data.

Responsible Tourism

Companies participating in Responsible Tourism agree on a limited number of clear and simple measures of responsible tourism.

The purpose of the incentive project is to maintain Iceland‘s status as an optimal future destination for tourists by supporting sustainability for future generations of the nation. Leaders from over 310 companies have now signed a declaration on responsible tourism. Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, President of Iceland, is the project’s patron. Festa and The Iceland Tourism Cluster are the founders of the project.

The companies involved in the project aim to:
Demonstrate exemplary behavior and respect for nature.
Ensure the safety of guests and treat them courteously.
Respect the rights of employees.
Have a positive impact on the local community.
